Job Description
This job opening is for the position of Cook at a fast-paced restaurant environment where the primary responsibility is to cook, prepare, and package food products following strict operational and quality standards. The establishment is focused on delivering high-quality food to its customers while maintaining compliance with health and safety policies. This role is essential to the daily operations of the kitchen and is supervised directly by the Manager on Duty (MOD), who oversees overall kitchen management and ensures that all food preparation and service standards are met.
The position requires the cook to handle various cooking and preparation stations, including the dresser, front swamp, back swamp, grill, and other food prep stations as assigned. This diversity in station responsibilities demands versatility and the ability to multitask effectively. The cook must adhere to company policies, operational procedures, and quality controls in every aspect of their duties to ensure a consistent and safe dining experience for customers.
Additionally, the cook is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, which includes disposing of trash, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and food prep tools, wiping counters, sanitizing food preparation areas, cleaning equipment, and emptying used grease. All of these tasks must be performed regularly and rigorously to comply with operational health standards.
The nature of the job involves a flexible work schedule with irregular hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of the restaurant’s operating hours. The work environment is physically demanding, with continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, and lifting. The cook may also be exposed to heat and hot liquids often and cold storage areas when stocking food items. The ability to work in these variable conditions is crucial for success in the role.
Beyond the primary cooking and preparation duties, the cook is also expected to address any customer or employee complaints by reporting them to the Manager on Duty. The role includes moving and stocking food products weighing up to 50 pounds and other job-related tasks as assigned. This breadth of responsibilities requires a proactive individual who can work as part of a team and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
The ideal candidate for this position should have a general knowledge of restaurant or retail food operations, basic math and reading skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills. The ability to follow directions carefully and multitask in a fast-paced environment is essential. This position does not specify a required education level but emphasizes experience and skills relevant to food preparation and kitchen operation.
Overall, the cook role is vital to the restaurant’s success in delivering quality food and ensuring customer satisfaction through high standards of cleanliness and food safety. The company encourages candidates who are hardworking, detail-oriented, and able to handle the physical demands of the kitchen environment to apply. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic setting with supportive management and the chance to develop culinary skills further.
