The Cook position at Cedarhurst Senior Living is vital in supporting the health and well-being of the community's residents. Reporting directly to the Dining Services Director, the Cook plays a crucial role in preparing nutritious, high-quality, and appealing meals that adhere to established hospitality and service standards. This role demands attention to individual dietary needs and the ability to maintain strict food safety and infection control protocols. The Cook is responsible for ensuring meals are served on schedule and at optimal temperatures, enhancing the overall dining experience. Beyond culinary tasks, this position involves collaboration with dining and community staff to maintain an organized kitchen environment and support the training of new team members. The Cook is expected to contribute to a positive, resident-focused atmosphere by upholding exceptional culinary standards and practicing excellent communication with residents and their families. This position not only ensures that meals are delicious and healthful but also that the dining environment fosters comfort, safety, and enjoyment for all. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum one year of cooking experience preferred
  • valid state or county licensure
  • ability to obtain food manager certification
  • adherence to food safety and infection control protocols
  • physical ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance
  • ability to stand or walk for extended periods
  • effective communication skills
  • commitment to continuous learning and training
  • willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • compliance with background check and health assessments
  • use of personal protective equipment as required

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • at least one (1) year experience as a cook is preferred
  • applicable state/county licensure required
  • food manager certification, or ability to obtain, is required
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred
  • demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable

Job Duties

  • ensure the proper preparation, portioning, and serving of foods as indicated on the menu cycle and standardized recipes
  • taste and prepare food to determine quality
  • prepare all special dietary needs as directed by the Dining Services Director and/or menus assigned
  • determine food and supplies needed and coordinate meal production with serving hours
  • assist with proper documentation of temperature logs, taste panel forms, and cleaning schedules
  • assist with orientation and training of new kitchen staff
  • handle food in a safe and appropriate manner
