The current opportunity is for a Cook who will play a vital role in preparing meals that cater to the diverse dietary needs of senior residents, supporting the Sous or Executive Chef in maintaining high standards of food quality and safety. This role involves independently preparing various meals with attention to presentation and adapting recipes as necessary to meet special dining requirements. The Cook will participate in menu planning and help ensure the kitchen operates efficiently by maintaining cleanliness, proper food handling, and storage standards. This position is ideal for individuals with at least two years of cooking experience, preferably in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant settings, who possess a thorough knowledge of food safety and kitchen regulations. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting

Job Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines
  • Knowledge of state food-handling and kitchen regulations
  • Ability to operate kitchen appliances including dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, and mixer
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents
  • ServeSafe or equivalent certification preferred
  • Willingness to learn and help others
  • Enjoyment in working with older adults

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals for residents with attention to quality and presentation
  • Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dining needs of residents or to improve recipes
  • Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving
  • Identify food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and report to the supervisor
  • Participate in new menu and special menu planning
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control
