Job Description
Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel is a premier hospitality establishment that combines Southern hospitality with upscale decor and convenient amenities, making it a sought-after destination for travelers and locals alike. Situated just 15 miles from Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, the hotel enjoys an excellent location with easy access to some of Baton Rouge's top destinations, including the Mall of Louisiana, Perkins Rowe, Louisiana State University, and the Country Club of Louisiana. The Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel is currently seeking a dedicated Cook to join their culinary team. This position reports directly to the Executive Chef or Kitchen Supervisor and plays a vital role in preparing all food items for multiple outlets including the restaurant, room service, employee cafeteria, and banquet events. The Cook is expected to adhere strictly to standardized recipes and hotel quality standards to ensure that every dish is appealing and appetizing. This role is not only about creating delicious meals but also about maintaining the highest cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards in the kitchen and work areas. Additionally, the Cook will be responsible for minimizing waste and maximizing cost-effectiveness in food production.
The ideal candidate will hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent, with a culinary arts degree or certificate considered an asset. Experience in fine dining is also preferred, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to excellence in food preparation and guest satisfaction. The Cook will have thorough knowledge of menus and food preparation techniques, including charbroiling, poaching, deep-frying, sautéing, braising, roasting, and par-cooking. They will ensure that all food preparation and buffet displays meet hotel standards and that storage areas remain clean and organized.
In addition to technical culinary skills, the Cook will embody Renaissance Baton Rouge’s service-focused culture by interacting with guests and colleagues in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner. A strong understanding of food quality, including recognizing fresh vegetables, fish, dairy, and meat products, alongside knowledge of herbs and spices, is essential.
