Job Description

Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC) is a well-established nonprofit organization committed to serving children and families throughout Oregon by providing comprehensive early education and family support programs. With a mission grounded in fostering stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures, OCDC creates a supportive environment where the well-being and development of children are prioritized. As an organization, OCDC is devoted to making a meaningful impact in the communities it serves by ensuring access to quality programs that aid in the healthy growth and development of children from infancy through early childhood. The coalition operates through community-based centers, delivering culturally responsive services that recognize and respect the unique backgrounds of the families served.

In the role of a Cook at OCDC, you become an integral part of an impactful team focused on the nutritional health and well-being of children enrolled in the programs. This position is responsible for designing and preparing meals that are not only age-appropriate but also adhere strictly to the nutritional guidelines established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). You will be tasked with controlling food preparation processes, following precise recipes, and ensuring that every meal supports the developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Your duties will include completing food preparation procedures with attention to quality and quantity, maintaining detailed production records, and adjusting processes as necessary to meet program standards. You will collaborate closely with the Food Services Supervisor and parents to develop culturally appropriate and nutritionally balanced menu cycles, continually reviewing and modifying these plans based on feedback and popularity of dishes. Compliance with USDA regulations and Head Start standards is critical, as is the observance of sanitation and safety protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment for food preparation.

Additionally, the Cook at OCDC plays a vital role in ordering kitchen supplies, managing inventory, and implementing cost control measures through the prudent use of seasonal ingredients and effective utilization of food surpluses. Training and supervising Cooking Assistants, participating in team meetings, and supporting staff and parent events by providing meals further underscore the collaborative nature of this role.

Employment in this position is hourly, with a pay range from $18.94 to $23.65, commensurate with experience, skills, certifications, and internal equity considerations. OCDC offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees working 20 or more hours per week, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans with employer contributions, paid time off and leave programs, life and disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, and wellness programs. The organization values employee well-being and promotes a mission-driven work culture committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Joining OCDC as a Cook means being part of a dedicated nonprofit team that not only values nutritional excellence but also embraces empowerment through education and community support. If you have a passion for cooking, especially for children, and want to contribute your skills to an organization that truly makes a difference, this role offers a unique opportunity to grow professionally while positively impacting the lives of children and families across Oregon.
