The role of Cook at RWJUH Hamilton Hospital is a full-time, day shift position within the Dietary-Management department. This hourly position offers a competitive pay range between $16.00 and $19.00 per hour, dependent on the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience, reflective of pay transparency standards in New Jersey. The Cook will be responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking food for hospital patients, the hospital café, the Meals on Wheels program, and special functions both on and off-site. This includes adhering to sanitary and safety standards in compliance with all state and local health codes. The successful candidate will consistently follow recipes, conduct quality assurance by tasting food regularly, maintain proper food temperatures, and properly store and label food items. They will frequently prepare fresh products daily, minimize waste by careful production planning, and ensure strict adherence to FIFO (first in, first out) inventory rotation to maintain freshness and safety.

Additional responsibilities include managing batch cooking, lifting items up to 75 pounds, operating various kitchen stations as needed, and participating in department and hospital meetings. An essential component of the role is upholding five-star standards of service, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy towards staff, patients, and customers. This position supports the hospital's goal of providing nutritious and safe meals to diverse populations, including patients with specialized dietary needs. The role is integral in maintaining the kitchen’s hygienic environment by following scheduled cleaning protocols and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.   • Reviews daily production sheets to properly identify type and quality of food to be prepared
  • Minimizes waste and over production
  • Rotates food items on an FIFO basis
  • Insures all foods are kept at proper holding temperatures
  • Successfully performs batch cooking
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Responsible for daily signage and specials
  • Operates other stations when needed
  • Attends all department and hospital meetings when scheduled
