Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Food Service Department plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellness of its patients, visitors, and staff. They are currently seeking a Full-time Cook to join their dedicated team. This position involves preparing hot foods for patient tray lines, café service, and special functions. The role requires expertise in cooking a variety of items including entrees, vegetables, starches, and bakery products. The cook will contribute directly to the comfort and satisfaction of patients and guests by ensuring meals are prepared to the highest standards of quality and safety.
This full-time position involves working 40 hours per week on rotating 8-hour shifts that can vary between early morning (4 a.m.) and evening (up to 8 p.m.). The hospital offers up to a $2,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates, reflecting the value placed on experienced and skilled food service professionals. Candidates must obtain Food Handler Certification as required by the local health department, which is mandatory for all operates in specific Sentara facilities. Experience working with the elderly or frail population is highly valued, especially for units like PACE that cater to senior patients.

Job Requirements
