This particular opportunity is for a Cook position located at Stanley Black & Decker UPA in New Britain. The role is full-time with weekday morning shifts, offering hourly pay ranging from $19.00 to $22.00. As a Cook at Sodexo, you will be an essential member of a fast-paced kitchen team dedicated to delivering high-quality meals. You will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting a diverse range of hot and cold food items according to Sodexo's culinary standards, ensuring consistency, quality, and safety. Your role will involve accurate portioning and timely production to meet the needs of all meal periods and special events. The Cook I contributes significantly to maintaining a clean and organized workstation while adhering strictly to food safety and sanitation guidelines.

In this capacity, you will follow recipes and product directions carefully to prepare soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other menu offerings. You will be involved in planning production needs by tasting products, reading menus, and estimating food requirements. Physical stamina is essential for this role, as it includes considerable walking, standing throughout shifts potentially exceeding 8 hours, and the ability to lift and move heavy items regularly. This job demands attention to detail, teamwork, and flexibility, with duties varying depending on client and business requirements.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift heavy weights repeatedly
  • Must attend work and be punctual
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to work weekdays morning shifts

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of kitchen equipment and food-handling procedures
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment
  • Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with federal, state and corporate standards
  • Follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving food
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements and keep production records
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation
  • Walk or stand for extended periods during shifts
  • Reach, bend, stoop, push and pull, and lift up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Perform repetitive motions as required
