Job Description
This position is offered by a thriving restaurant known for delivering high-quality food and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment. The establishment prides itself on maintaining superior operational standards and providing a comfortable yet efficient working atmosphere for its employees. As a dynamic entity within the food service industry, this restaurant continually seeks dedicated team members who can contribute to its culinary excellence and overall guest satisfaction. The role available is for a Cook, a vital position within the kitchen team responsible for preparing delicious food that meets the establishment's quality and safety standards. This position is a nonexempt role and works under the supervision of the Manager on Duty (MOD). The employment type is full-time or part-time based on operational needs, with the schedule involving irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, which are typical for the food service sector.
The Cook role involves cooking, preparing, and packaging food products in accordance with established operational and quality standards. This is a hands-on position that requires operating various kitchen stations such as the dresser, front swamp, back swamp, grill, and food prep stations as assigned by the management. The cook ensures compliance with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards to maintain consistency and hygiene in food preparation. Essential job duties include performing regular cleaning and sanitation tasks such as trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and food preparation tools, wiping counters, sanitizing food prep areas, cleaning equipment, and safely handling waste like used grease. Additionally, the Cook must maintain regular attendance and demonstrate punctuality as this role is integral to smooth kitchen operations.
The position demands a worker capable of multi-tasking efficiently while following verbal and written instructions accurately. Cooks must possess general restaurant or retail knowledge as well as basic math and reading skills to measure ingredients properly and follow recipes. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential to work collaboratively with team members and address any operational issues promptly. The Cook also plays a supportive role by reporting any customer or employee complaints or issues to the Manager on Duty to ensure timely resolution. Manual labor tasks such as moving and stocking food products weighing up to 50 pounds are part of the job, which requires physical stamina and the ability to work in a demanding environment.
The work environment involves continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, and lifting within a restaurant setting. Frequent exposure to heat and hot liquid shortening during cooking is expected, as well as regular exposure to freezer temperatures when stocking food items. Occasionally, Cooks experience extreme temperature variations depending on weather conditions. This job suits individuals who thrive in active and sometimes physically challenging conditions while embracing the fast pace and teamwork necessary in restaurant kitchens. It is a fulfilling career path for those passionate about food preparation and excellent guest experiences, offering opportunities for growth within a reputable establishment committed to quality and service excellence.
