The College of New Jersey location is currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Cook to join Sodexo’s culinary team. This opportunity is available for both full-time and part-time employment with a pay rate of $16.50 per hour. The work schedule includes varying shifts with open availability preferred. This role goes beyond just preparing food as the Cook contributes to creating an exceptional dining experience for customers by maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and presentation. You will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment where efficiency, clean workstations, and teamwork are essential. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting both hot and cold food items for all meal periods and special events, aligning with Sodexo’s culinary standards.

The position requires adherence to strict food safety standards, understanding of recipe instructions, and the ability to operate kitchen equipment safely. Physical stamina is important since the work involves standing or walking for extended periods, lifting weights up to 50 pounds occasionally, performing repetitive motions, and maintaining mobility throughout shifts that may exceed eight hours. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment
  • Ability to read and follow a recipe unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time throughout the entire duration of a shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs and client requirements
