Job Description
California Fish Grill is a dynamic and fast-growing restaurant chain specializing in serving fresh, high-quality seafood dishes with a commitment to excellent customer service and sustainable practices. With a strong presence in the dining industry, California Fish Grill upholds the highest standards of food safety, quality, and guest satisfaction while fostering a supportive work environment for its employees. The company prides itself on its mission to provide exceptional food experiences while maintaining an inclusive and respectful workplace that encourages teamwork and professional growth.
The current opportunity is for a Food Preparation Cook, an hourly non-exempt position responsible for preparing and directing the preparation of food served in accordance with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards. The role requires adherence to established food production programs and procedures, ensuring that all meals meet quality standards in taste, temperature, and presentation. The position reports directly to the Restaurant General Manager or Training General Manager.
As a Food Preparation Cook, you will play an essential role in the daily operations of the restaurant by making sure that food preparation aligns with safety regulations and company policies to minimize waste, loss, and inefficiency. You will determine necessary food quantities, ensure supply availability, and set up steam tables and serving areas timely. Responsibilities also include maintaining cleanliness, proper food storage, effective equipment use, and timely reporting of any malfunctions or maintenance needs. You will be expected to keep accurate daily production records and conduct food temperature checks before service.
This role requires physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform tasks such as lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, and operating kitchen equipment like ovens, stoves, dishwashers, slicers, and steamers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to food safety and sanitation, have moderate reading and writing skills, and possess the interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with team members and guests in a fast-paced environment.
Strong knowledge of restaurant operations, safe work habits, and company policies is vital to success in this position. You will be expected to uphold the organization's mission and values, contribute to a safe working environment, support quality assurance initiatives, and foster positive public relations with guests and coworkers. Flexibility for extended hours when needed and a willingness to participate in ongoing training and skill development are also important.
This position is designed for candidates with a high school diploma or GED and at least 2-3 years of related food service experience, including prior exposure to food handling safety certifications such as ServSafe. The company values integrity, honesty, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining open communication within the team. If you thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment and are passionate about delivering exceptional food experiences, California Fish Grill invites you to join their dedicated team in this rewarding Food Preparation Cook role.
