The role of the Cook is pivotal within the kitchen team, working closely alongside the Chef to ensure a seamless culinary operation. This job involves multiple responsibilities including meal preparation where ingredients are weighed, measured, and mixed precisely to meet quality standards. You will be cooking various dishes while maintaining strict adherence to recipes and portion controls to guarantee consistency in taste and presentation. In addition to meal preparation, a key part of the role is overseeing the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and all associated equipment to comply with health and safety regulations.
When the Chef is not present, the Cook assumes responsibility for running the kitchen, which requires strong leadership abilities and the capacity to manage kitchen operations effectively. This includes managing food inventories, assisting with banquet functions, and contributing ideas to improve kitchen processes that enhance both guest satisfaction and cost control. The Cook must exhibit excellent communication skills, command of English for reading and writing reports, and proficiency in using computer software necessary for hotel operations such as Microsoft Office and electronic mail programs.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of experience in hotel kitchen operations preferred
- Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to follow instructions and work under pressure
- Physical capability to stand, walk, lift and perform kitchen tasks
- Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen safety protocols
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma at a minimum
- 3 or more years of hotel operations experience preferred
- Developed language skills to read and interpret English documents such as correspondence, newspapers, and manuals
- Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, business letters, and summaries in English using prescribed formats
- Ability to speak effectively in English to customers and employees
- Developed reasoning skills to apply common sense to instructions
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365, Outlook, and company-issued software
- Ability to maintain high standards of sanitation and cleanliness in the kitchen
Job Duties
- Responsible for kitchen duties when Chef is not on property
- Assist Chef with food preparation, helping maintain food cost, quality, quantity, portion control, inventories
- Assure cooking standards to maintain a high quality of food and service on a consistent basis as demonstrated by Chef
- Enforces hotel’s standard recipes for all dishes to insure portion control and uniformity of quality and taste under Chef supervision
- Helps Chef, for banquet function as prepared by the Sales Office, and assists during functions as needed
- Assures security and safety in the kitchen
- Makes suggestions to the Food and Beverage Manager concerning improvements in the kitchen which would enhance guest satisfaction and, at the same time, maintain payroll and food costs requirements
- Attends the weekly Sales meetings
- Works in conjunction with the Food and Beverage Manager and General Manager to ensure that high standard of sanitation and cleanliness are always maintained throughout the kitchen and dumpster area
- Assists the Food and Beverage Manager in taking the end-of-month inventories
