This position is for a Culinary Assistant or Sous Chef who plays an essential role in assisting the Culinary Manager with various kitchen activities. This role demands hands-on culinary skills along with the ability to oversee kitchen operations in the Culinary Manager’s absence. The individual must be adept at menu planning input, supporting special event preparations, and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and kitchen equipment functionality.

The role requires a candidate with at least 2 years of culinary experience, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to communicate with care and respect, particularly for senior citizen customers. Attention to sanitary practices and food handling regulations is crucial to maintain compliance and ensure customer health and safety. Additionally, supervisory duties are part of the role, requiring leadership qualities to guide kitchen and dining team members effectively. The job also requires physical stamina as it involves standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequent use of hands for handling tools and kitchen equipment.

The Culinary Assistant or Sous Chef will act as a vital link between the Culinary Manager, kitchen staff, wait staff, and customers. Job Duties

  • Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals to customers
  • Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary
  • Work with Culinary Manager to determine needs and provide input for menu item selection
  • Help plan for special events
  • Ensure kitchen and dining staff know and understand safe handling procedures and promote good hygiene
  • Attend regulatory compliance training
  • Work with Culinary Manager and wait staff to ensure customer needs are met and kitchen demand is handled
  • Help wait staff become familiar with menu and specialty items
  • Keep all equipment cleaned and well maintained
  • Report any faults or hazards to Culinary Manager
  • Keep kitchen clean and ready for service
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and work to correct any issues timely
  • Visit with customers whenever possible
  • Assist other restaurant team members as necessary
  • Ensure no pending activities before end of shift
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned
