The Cook role at Sodexo, based at the Security Benefit Group HQ in Topeka, offers a full-time employment opportunity with weekday shifts only and a competitive pay range of $16 to $17 per hour. This position plays a crucial part in maintaining high culinary standards and ensuring the quality, safety, and consistency of meals served. As a Cook, you will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, preparing a variety of hot and cold dishes while adhering to Sodexo's strict guidelines on food safety and sanitation. The job emphasizes teamwork and efficient production processes to create exceptional dining experiences for customers.

This role involves preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting food items according to standardized recipes and client specifications. You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized workstation and following regulatory requirements related to food handling and kitchen operations. The Cook supports the smooth function of kitchen activities by accurately planning production needs, estimating food quantities, and requisitioning supplies. Physical demands include extended periods of standing or walking, lifting weights up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive motions.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods, potentially over 8 hours per shift
  • Attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of kitchen equipment and food-handling procedures
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations
  • Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation
  • Walk or stand for extended periods throughout entire shift which may exceed 8 hours
  • Perform repetitive motions and physical tasks such as reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 35 pounds frequently and occasionally lifting/moving 50 pounds
  • Attend work and show up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business necessities and client requirements
