Reporting directly to the Food Services Director, the Cook takes responsibility for preparing food items following established dietary procedures and safety regulations to maintain a safe and hospitable dining environment. This position is non-exempt and involves hands-on culinary duties, administrative tasks, inventory assistance, and active engagement with residents during meals to enhance their overall dining experience.\n\nA Cook at Benchmark Senior Living must demonstrate an acute attention to detail and take initiative in the organization and maintenance of kitchen supplies, equipment, and storage areas such as walk-in freezers and storerooms. The role requires proficiency in operating kitchen appliances safely and efficiently—including meat slicers, food processors, ovens, and dishwashers—to prepare balanced meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Cook will assist chefs in inventory management and coordinate food production lines to ensure timely meal service. Critical to this role is adherence to all dietary regulations and the ability to maintain Serve-Safe certification at all times.\n\nWorking within a senior living environment, the Cook not only performs culinary tasks but also plays a key role in resident interaction, providing a presence in the dining room to receive feedback and ensure resident satisfaction. Additionally, the role demands physical stamina and the ability to manage various postures and lifting requirements safely, with attention to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment. Job Requirements

  • interacts with residents in dining room during meals to receive feedback
  • organizes walk-in freezer, storeroom, kitchen tables, and counters
  • receives and puts away food and storeroom orders
  • assists chefs in taking inventory
  • helps establish food production line to ensure meals are prepared on time
  • serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • demonstrates proper usage of equipment
  • earns and maintains Serve-Safe certification
