This opportunity is for a temporary full-time Cook 1 position based at Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie. Reporting to the Manager of Nutrition and Food Services or designated supervisors, this role plays a crucial part in ensuring the delivery of high quality, nutritious meals within a healthcare setting. The Cook 1 is responsible for overseeing the daily preparation, cooking, and service of meals for patients, residents, staff, and visitors, while strictly adhering to health standards, policies, and government regulations. With work shifts that may include day, night, and weekend rotations, the position demands a strong commitment to food safety, hygiene, and customer service excellence. The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in managing work priorities and resolving unusual situations effectively. Essential qualifications include a minimum of one year full-time experience in health care food service or institutional cooking, a Grade 12 education or equivalent, and current Food Handler Training certificate Level 1 or equivalent. The role demands knowledge of nutritional therapeutic diets and modified food textures, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and email communication, and the ability to work independently or within a team environment. The Cook 1 must also be adept at maintaining a safe and organized kitchen environment, following written and verbal instructions, handling chemicals safely, and promoting safety through proper body mechanics and workplace safety standards. A valid Class 5 driver's license and access to an insured vehicle is also required. Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Minimum one year full-time health care food service or institutional cooking experience
  • Current Food Handler Training certificate Level 1 or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Insured vehicle with liability insurance of at least $1,000,000
  • Ability to lift items ranging from 2.2 to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Good work and attendance record
