Recognized as a Great Place to Work for the ninth time by Activated Insights, Sunrise Senior Living emphasizes a respectful workplace culture and a commitment to excellence. The company focuses on supporting seniors to live longer, healthier, and happier lives by fostering an environment that values human life and builds meaningful relationships among residents, their families, and team members. This dedication is reflected through their mission, principles of service, and core values, which guide all aspects of their operations and staff responsibilities.
The role of Cook at Sunrise Senior Living is critical in ensuring that residents enjoy nutritious, delicious meals prepared timely and safely according to established recipes and food safety standards. The Cook is responsible for managing food production in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator, demonstrating strong culinary skills, organized kitchen management, and adherence to health and safety regulations. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being and satisfaction of senior residents by preparing meals that meet their dietary needs and preferences.
In this role, the Cook performs essential duties including preparing and serving meals, recording production quantities and temperatures, adhering strictly to food safety protocols, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. They also manage inventory by stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products properly, and ensure all cooking equipment is maintained safely. The position demands collaboration, engagement, and active participation in team goals and training to maintain compliance with regulations and company standards.
Beyond the kitchen, the Cook supports dining services by performing dishwashing, light janitorial duties, and assisting with service in dining areas as needed. Strong organizational and time-management skills, effective communication, good judgment, and the ability to handle multiple priorities are core competencies required to succeed in this role.
Candidates for this position should possess at least one year of food preparation experience in similar environments such as restaurants or hotels, a high school diploma or GED, and mandatory certifications including CPR, First Aid, ServSafe Manager, and a local Health Department Food Handler Card. Prior culinary training or apprenticeship is considered an advantage. Sunrise also requires compliance with ongoing training and recertification as necessary.
Sunrise Senior Living offers competitive compensation based on location, experience, and qualifications. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability plans, retirement savings options, employee assistance and discount programs, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and the opportunity for performance-based bonuses. Employees also benefit from myFlexPay, allowing them to access earned wages shortly after shifts.
Overall, working as a Cook at Sunrise Senior Living means becoming part of a dedicated team that positively impacts the lives of seniors every day while enjoying a supportive workplace culture, opportunities for growth, and a rewarding career fulfilling the mission to empower residents and shine together.
