Job Description

This job opportunity is with a well-established Adult Care Home dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to its residents. The facility focuses on maintaining a comfortable, safe, and nutritious environment for individuals who require assistance with daily living. As a vital part of the care team, this Adult Care Home helps ensure that each resident's nutritional needs are met through thoughtful meal planning and preparation, in compliance with health regulations and dietary guidelines. The role in focus is that of a Dietary Manager or Food Service Coordinator, responsible for planning and preparing all meals and snacks for residents. This position involves managing food service operations, ensuring compliance with nutritional and safety standards, and providing therapeutic menus tailored to the specific needs of residents based on medical orders. The employee will be responsible for menu planning, food inventory, and purchase alignment with budget constraints, as well as staff coordination and compliance with state and facility policies. This full-time position demands a proactive and compassionate individual who is skilled in meal planning, food safety, and managing dietary operations to uphold the adult care home's high standards and enhance residents' quality of life.

Key job duties include preparing menus at least one week in advance, specifying portions and snacks, and ensuring food availability to provide nutritionally adequate and palatable meals throughout the day. The candidate will also be required to plan therapeutic menus in consultation with registered dietitians, maintain preference lists for residents, and prepare nutritional bag lunches for those attending day programs outside the facility. The position requires strict adherence to food safety regulations, ensuring hot foods are served above 140 degrees Fahrenheit and cold foods below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, maintaining cleanliness according to North Carolina Environmental Health Standards, and following all regulatory requirements including confidentiality and safety procedures.

This role further involves documenting menu substitutions, handling inventory and deliveries responsibly, and maintaining positive and respectful interactions with residents, families, and other staff members. The Dietary Manager must be familiar with all relevant rules, policies, and resident rights, contribute to a safe and supportive environment, and participate in ongoing required education. Job Requirements

  • Experience in food service
  • Ability to read, write, understand and follow directions
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen within NC Environmental Health Standards
  • Understanding of NC Rules and Regulations
  • No substantiated findings on NC Personnel Registry or Health Care Program
  • Clear SBI and DMV record and maintain during employment
  • Wear slip resistant shoes while working in dietary at all times

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in food service

  • Familiarity with NC Rules and Regulations
  • Clean background including SBI and DMV records

Job Duties

  • Prepare required menus at least one week in advance with portions specified and snacks shown
  • Plan therapeutic menus per physicians' orders in consultation with a registered dietitian
  • Record any menu substitutions on menu calendar before food is served
  • Post menus in kitchen for food service staff and make available to residents according to policy
  • Maintain an up-to-date preference list of foods for each resident
  • Prepare and serve three meals a day with at least 10 hours between breakfast and dinner
  • Ensure hot foods are served above 140 degrees F and cold foods below 45 degrees F
  • Prepare nutritional bag lunch for residents attending day programs, considering food safety
  • Serve appropriate menu snacks daily
  • Take inventory and purchase food and supplies within budget and policy
  • Check food deliveries for accuracy, sign invoices and keep for review
  • Maintain resident dignity, confidentiality, and safety
  • Work cooperatively with staff and relate favorably to residents and families
  • Be familiar with and apply accident, fire safety, OSHA, and emergency procedures
  • Assist residents in exercising their rights under the Adult Care Home Residents' Bill of Rights
  • Ensure careful treatment of equipment and supplies
  • Read and adhere to all facility and employee policies
  • Participate in job-related continuing education
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Notify appropriate staff of residents' irregular eating habits and special needs
