Physical stamina and ability to work in a kitchen environment are essential; the job requires frequent walking, standing, kneeling, or squatting, with periods of relief sitting. Comfort with kitchen conditions, including working near hot stoves, ovens, and cold freezers, is necessary. Moreover, effective communication skills in English, along with the ability to read and write, are important for following recipes, labeling food, and interacting with fellow staff and potentially the clients or customers served.
A high school diploma or GED is required along with a minimum of one year of experience cooking for large groups, demonstrating the candidate's familiarity with preparing food in a volume that meets community or institutional needs. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that imparts the required knowledge and skills will be considered. The position also requires current ServSafe Certification, underscoring the priority placed on food safety and sanitation standards.
