Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous cooking experience preferred
  • ability to follow dietary and sanitary regulations
  • availability to work 5 am to 1 pm shift
  • ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • physical ability to stand for extended periods
  • willingness to work in a healthcare environment
  • adherence to facility policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior cooking or food preparation experience preferred
  • knowledge of dietary needs related to therapeutic and special diets
  • ability to follow standardized recipes and portion control
  • experience in a healthcare or skilled nursing facility preferred but not required
  • strong attention to detail
  • ability to work collaboratively with healthcare team
  • understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
  • good communication skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information

Job Duties

  • Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus
  • prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance
  • serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures
  • prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus
  • prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders
  • prepare and serve bedtime snacks
  • provide appropriate equipment and utensils with the resident's meal tray
  • review care plans to ensure dietary information matches foods served
  • prepare and serve substitute foods for residents who refuse served foods
  • inspect special diet trays to ensure correct diet is served
  • complete administrative tasks such as forms and reports
  • coordinate dietary service with other departments
  • work with facility dietitian to implement dietary changes
  • ensure dietary procedures comply with policies
  • assist in standardizing work methods
  • assume accountability of Cook position
  • maintain and file menus per policy
  • assist in establishing food service production line
  • process diet changes from Nursing Services
  • develop and maintain rapport with inter-department personnel
  • ensure safety and sanitation regulations are followed
  • manage cleaning duties and food storage maintenance
  • dispose of food waste according to policy
  • assist in inventory management
  • recommend equipment and supply needs
  • maintain confidentiality of resident care information
  • assist in preparation for special meals and events
  • cook meals specifically for residents at the facility
