Job Description

The Manor in Little Rock, AR, is a respected assisted living community dedicated to providing high-quality care and a warm environment for its residents. We are currently seeking an experienced Cook to join our dedicated team at The Manor. This position offers a full-time opportunity requiring 40 hours per week, with a rotating schedule that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and every other weekend along with rotating weekdays. This dynamic role is crucial in supporting the nutritional and dietary needs of our residents by preparing, seasoning, cooking, and serving meals according to established standards. The Cook will play an integral role in not only food preparation but also in supervising the dietary staff in the absence of the Executive Chef, ensuring that meal times are adhered to punctually and all food preparation complies with federal and state long-term care regulations. Additional responsibilities involve assisting in food and supply organization, maintaining cleanliness in work areas, and contributing to a hygienic dining environment by executing cleaning duties and ensuring all equipment and supplies are properly stored.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in institutional dietary service preferred
  • Ability to follow recipe directions and dietary orders accurately
  • Strong numerical skills for measuring ingredients and chemicals
  • Good manual dexterity and motor coordination
  • Availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to maintain patience and tolerance in a healthcare environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • Preferred previous institutional dietary service experience
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments
  • Numerical ability for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals
  • Good motor coordination and manual dexterity for various work routines
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including during emergency situations
  • Demonstrated patience and tolerance toward staff, residents, and family members

Job Duties

  • Prepare, season, cook and serve for assigned meal
  • Supervise dietary staff in absence of Executive Chef
  • Ensure timely adherence to scheduled meal and snack times
  • Follow Federal/State long-term care regulations and adhere to Dietary Department policies and procedures
  • Assist in receiving, organizing, and storing food and supplies
  • Execute cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties as assigned
  • Contribute to the arrangement of tray cards, loading food carts, and serving meals
  • Set up the dining room and serve residents with care and courtesy
  • Manage dishwashing responsibilities and ensure proper storage of dishes
  • Engage in floor cleaning activities such as sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting
  • Effectively remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using approved cleaning/disinfecting solutions
  • Clean walls and ceilings through washing, wiping, dusting, and spot cleaning/disinfecting
  • Dispose of waste trash into designated containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liners
  • Maintain cleanliness in work/assignment areas and ensure proper storage of equipment, tools, supplies, etc., at all times, including before breaks, meal times, and the end of the workday
