This job opening is for the position of Cook, a crucial role within HMSHost’s food service operations. The Cook is responsible for preparing cooked food items and must competently manage multiple station functions including frying, flat top griddle work, pantry duties, and egg preparation. This role requires adherence to precise recipes and product directions to ensure consistent food quality and safety standards. The Cook must communicate effectively with managers and servers regarding order status and potential issues, maintaining a smooth workflow during busy service periods.

The position is non-exempt, meaning it is eligible for overtime pay under applicable labor laws. It requires a minimum of one year of related cooking experience, preferably in a high-volume casual dining restaurant environment. The Cook is expected to implement excellent food safety and sanitation practices, complying with HACCP standards to ensure customer safety and satisfaction. The ability to operate various kitchen equipment, perform food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding fruits and vegetables, and maintain clean and sanitized workstations is essential.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year cooking experience
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  • ability to follow recipes and product directions
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • ability to bend, twist and stand for extended periods
  • ability to work in hot environments
  • ability to use sharp knives and hot equipment
  • good communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
  • minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience
  • work experience in high volume and casual dining restaurant environment preferred
  • food knowledge pertaining to soups, sauté, broiler, fry and pantry
  • ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents
  • ability to converse comfortably with customers

Job Duties

  • Follows recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving food items including soups, meats, vegetables and desserts
  • tastes products, follows menus, estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records to plan production and requisition supplies
  • cleans and sanitizes work stations and equipment
  • practices excellent food safety and sanitation practices and complies with HACCP standards
  • operates kitchen equipment, measures and mixes ingredients, washes, peels, cuts and shreds fruits and vegetables
  • stocks, dates, rotates, and checks temperature of product
