Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in a large-scale cooking operation
  • Current AZ Food Handlers Card
  • Must obtain Servsafe Manager Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least 21 years old
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push 20 to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to read and execute recipes
  • Ability to taste and smell food for quality
  • Willingness to work with volunteers
  • Safety sensitive position

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent leadership, communications (oral and written) and critical-thinking skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Two years of experience in a large-scale cooking operation required
  • Current AZ Food Handlers Card required with an understanding of kitchen sanitization and food codes
  • Must obtain Servsafe Manager Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Required a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Job Duties

  • Administers the food service program in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Ensures proper storage, rotation, preparation, and labeling of food in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines
  • Discards outdated food
  • Works in conjunction with the Kitchen Supervisor to develop meals and forecast supply needs
  • Assure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available
  • Assist in inventorying, dating, and storing incoming food and supplies as necessary
  • Recommend to the Kitchen Supervisor the equipment and supply needs of the department
  • Ensures continued efficiency of the cafeteria and production of consistent quality food
  • Prepare meals ensuring quality with minimum waste
  • Serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures
  • Prepare food for therapeutic diets according to planned menus
  • Prepare food according to standardized recipes and special diet orders
  • Review the menu prior to preparation to identify food required for dietary restrictions and allergies
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, and appliances
  • Evaluate and respond to patient complaints in collaboration with the Kitchen Supervisor
  • Work with volunteers to support kitchen functions and offer feedback for improvement
  • Attend and participate in training, in-services, and staff meetings
  • Drive to community partners and area food banks for supplies
  • Perform other duties as required
