The role available is a full-time Cook position with rotating shifts, integral to the daily operations of the hospital's food service. This position involves preparing and cooking a diverse range of hot and cold foods, ensuring each meal meets high standards in taste, quality, and visual appeal. The cook will participate actively in every step of the food production process - planning, requisitioning, handling, storing, and serving food items in compliance with established food safety regulations. This demanding role requires the individual to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment and to meet the hospital's strict hygiene standards. Working in a setting that can be dynamic and sometimes stressful, the cook must demonstrate adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently without sacrificing quality. The position requires physical endurance and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and maintain prolonged periods of standing or walking. Shifts vary and include early mornings, mid-day, and late afternoons with every other weekend and occasional holiday duties, reflecting the round-the-clock nature of hospital operations.

The cook is expected to efficiently manage food production including forecasting quantities, recommending menu changes to improve quality, and utilising leftovers to minimize waste. They will monitor food storage conditions closely to maintain safety and freshness, maintain all requisite food production records meticulously, and ensure all prepared items are properly labeled and dated. The role demands excellent customer service and communication skills, an ability to adapt to varying tasks quickly, and to collaborate effectively with coworkers and hospital staff in delivering a compassionate dining experience to patients and visitors alike. Working conditions may include exposure to kitchen heat, cleaning chemicals, noise, and wet floors, all requiring adherence to safety protocols.
