This job opportunity is for a full-time Cook position in the Culinary & Nutrition Department, specifically within Patient Services at Banner University Medical Center Tucson. This role is scheduled during the evening shift from 2pm to 10:30pm, including weekends, with weekday days off that may vary. The position offers not only a competitive salary supplemented with an 18% night shift differential for hours worked after 7pm and an additional dollar per hour weekend shift differential but also an excellent benefits package. This environment represents a fast-paced, high-volume culinary setting where cooks play a crucial role in preparing quality food that meets the nutritional and satisfaction needs of patients and staff.
As a Cook in this role, you will engage in preparing and cooking both hot and cold food items according to standardized recipes while considering production forecasts, catering orders, and prep sheets. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to diverse kitchen operations which might include working in the retail cafe grill area or preparing breakfast items. The role requires maintaining meticulous food and equipment safety standards through regular temperature checks and reporting any anomalies to supervisory personnel. In addition to food preparation duties, you will be responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels, rotating stock for freshness, and restocking supplies to ensure smooth kitchen operation.

Job Requirements
- At least one year of experience in institutional food production or production cooking
- Ability to learn and follow policies and procedures
- Ability to read and understand instructions
- Possess good communication skills
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Willingness to learn food safety regulations and pass certification tests
- Ability to work within time constraints
- Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely
- Ability to read and monitor temperatures
- Must be at least 18 years old
- For certain locations, possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at time of hire and throughout employment
- Must comply with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Job Qualifications
- One or more years of work experience in production cooking
- Ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures
- Ability to read and understand written and verbal instruction

- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
Job Duties
- Prepares and cooks hot and cold food items using standardized recipes and calculates production quantities based on production forecast, tally sheets and catering orders
- May be assigned to work in the retail cafe grill area, and/or cook breakfast items
- Records over production and run outs
- Writes directions and calculates production quantities
- Checks and logs food and equipment temperatures and reports any problems to the supervisor
- Reports all needed equipment repair
- Maintains par levels of food and supplies in assigned areas, orders and/or restocks items in accordance with established routines, rotates food stocks, checks freshness dates
- Keeps assigned work areas clean and in an orderly manner
- Assists other kitchen and dietary staff as needed and assigned
- May oversee the scheduled shift for efficiency
- Department responsibilities only, normally deals with internal staff
- May deal with customers in grill or exhibition position in retail units
- Follows established procedures, recipes and work routines under general supervision
