The organization has earned a reputation for being a leading healthcare provider while fostering a workplace culture built on respect, diversity, and well-being. They've been recognized as the 'Best Place to Work' for seven consecutive years, reflecting their dedication to employee satisfaction and professional growth. Southcoast Health's approach integrates a commitment to serving patients and the community with world-class healthcare offerings right near where people live.
Southcoast Health is currently seeking a talented Cook to join their team at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA. This position offers flexible per diem hours with shifts including early mornings, mid-mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekend/holiday rotations to accommodate a variety of schedules. As a Cook, you'll play a vital role in the food production team, contributing to the preparation of nutritious and delicious meals that support patient care and satisfaction throughout the hospital. Your responsibilities will include preparing short-order and made-to-order foods, exercising scratch cooking skills for soups, stews, and other specialties, and monitoring quality and temperature standards to ensure consistent meal excellence.
This position reports directly to the Manager of Food Production or their designee and requires a minimum of two years of culinary experience, with institutional experience preferred. Candidates must also pass the Southcoast's written culinary exam and obtain Serv Safe Certification within 60 days of hire, reflecting the organization's high food safety standards. The Cook will be responsible for maintaining inventory cleanliness and sanitation procedures according to established guidelines, as well as documenting production and temperature records accurately. Additionally, Southcoast Health values employee well-being by offering robust benefits including competitive pay, tuition assistance, a comprehensive retirement plan, employee wellbeing programs, generous earned time off, and professional development opportunities.
Pay rates for this position range from $16.99 to $28.92 per hour, with compensation determined by experience level. Southcoast Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 unless exempted for medical or personal reasons. It is a rewarding opportunity to use your culinary skills in a healthcare environment that values quality, safety, and inclusivity.
