The role of Cook at Sodexo, specifically located at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, involves preparing high-quality meals in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment. This position is available in both full-time and part-time capacities, with shifts primarily during afternoons and evenings, including some weekends and holidays as needed. The pay rate for this position is $19.00 per hour. The Cook plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional food service by preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting various hot and cold food items adhering to Sodexo’s culinary standards for quality, presentation, and consistency.
As a Cook, you will be responsible for working efficiently to maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring all food safety and sanitation protocols are met. Your duties include following recipes accurately, tasting dishes for quality control, estimating food production requirements, and keeping detailed records to manage supplies effectively. Physical stamina is essential for this role, as tasks require standing and walking for extended periods, lifting weights up to 50 pounds occasionally, and performing repetitive motions. Job Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience
- Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and food handling procedures
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience
- Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Good working knowledge of food preparation
- Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
- Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
Job Duties
- Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
- Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
- Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
- Significant walking or other means of mobility
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, throughout the entire duration of a shift, which may exceed 8 hours
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive motions
- Attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
- Other duties may be assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements
