Job Requirements
- must possess as a minimum an eighth grade education
- preferably one year food experience in supervisory or cooking capacity
- must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
- must maintain an eligible ACHA background screening status
- must be able to read write speak and understand English
- must be able to make independent decisions
- must be tactful with personnel residents and others
- must know food procedures
- must possess leadership ability and work harmoniously with others
- must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- must maintain care of supplies equipment and cleanliness of work areas
- must have patience tact cheerful disposition enthusiasm
- must possess ability to seek new methods and incorporate them
- must not pose a direct threat to health or safety of others
- must meet general health requirements including medical examination
Job Qualifications
- minimum eighth grade education
- one year food experience in a supervisory or cooking capacity preferred
- ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities

Job Duties
- review menus prior to preparation of food
- inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet is served
- perform administrative requirements such as completing forms and reports
- coordinate food service with other departments
- work with facility dietician and implement changes
- ensure all food procedures are followed
- assist in standardizing work methods
- assume authority and accountability of cook
- assist in establishing food service production line
- process diet changes
- develop and maintain rapport with personnel
- create a positive and calm environment
- report occupational accidents and incidents
- report fraud to administrator
- participate in in-service training
- prepare meals according to menus
- serve meals that are palatable and appetizing
- serve food following portion control
- prepare food for therapeutic diets
- prepare food following standardized recipes
- serve bedtime snacks
- provide equipment and utensils as needed
- prepare substitute foods
- prepare food according to sanitary regulations
- ensure safety regulations are followed
- follow infection control precautions
- schedule cleaning duties
- maintain cleanliness and safety of department
- report hazardous conditions
- report accidents and fill out reports
- dispose of food and waste properly
- wear protective clothing when handling waste
- report missing labels or MSDSs
- ensure food and supplies are available
- assist in inventorying supplies
- recommend equipment and supply needs
- maintain confidentiality of resident information
- knock before entering resident rooms
- maintain resident rights including right of refusal
- report complaints and grievances
- assist in serving meals
- make authorized food substitutions
- assist in special meal preparations
- attend continuing education
- maintain liaison with other departments
