Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Two or more years of relevant production cooking experience
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and adjust quantities
- Competence with commercial kitchen equipment
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to perform math calculations related to food production
- Ability to learn and follow food safety regulations
- Food handler’s card certification within 30 days for Banner Staffing Services team members except Tucson and Colorado
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for Banner Behavioral Health Hospital employees
- Ability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
- Capability to perform under fast-paced environment
- Willingness to participate in weekend and holiday rotations
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two or more years of institutional food production experience
- Knowledge of cooking principles and menu substitutions
- Experience with modified recipes for prescribed diets
- Skills in hot food production and commercial kitchen equipment use
- Ability to follow policies, read instructions, and communicate effectively
- Proficient in math calculations related to recipes and food quantities
- Knowledge of food handling regulations and certification
- Ability to perform tasks within time constraints
- Experience with cleaning schedules and safe chemical use
- Leadership abilities in cooking and food preparation
Job Duties
- Prepares all food items according to standardized recipes
- Adjusts recipe quantities for correct yields
- Notifies supervisor of any problems relating to production
- Plans food production timing and quantities in accordance with daily orders and menus
- Determines menu substitutions in the event of shortages
- Minimizes food waste through appropriate planning and tracking
- Records food shortages and excess quantities
- Checks and logs food and equipment temperatures, reporting any issues
- Maintains par levels of food and supplies, orders and restocks as required
- Rotates food stocks and checks freshness dates
- Keeps assigned work areas clean and orderly
- Reports equipment repair needs
- Receives and checks deliveries from vendors
- Oversees production quality when needed
- Provides leadership and knowledge in cooking and food preparation to kitchen staff
- Interacts with external customers in café or catering assignments
