Job Description

This position is within an Adult Care Home, a facility dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for residents who require daily assistance and care. The care home prioritizes the well-being and dignity of each individual, ensuring that residents receive not only physical care but also emotional support in a respectful manner. The facility operates under strict regulations to maintain high standards of health, safety, and nutrition to guarantee a quality lifestyle for residents. This establishment is committed to fostering a cooperative work environment where staff collaborate to meet the personal and dietary needs of every resident while adhering to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

The role of the dietary staff member in this Adult Care Home is crucial for maintaining residents' nutritional health and overall satisfaction. The primary responsibility is to plan and prepare menus that meet specific nutritional guidelines and portion sizes, including snacks, to ensure each resident receives at least three balanced and appetizing meals daily. This necessitates advanced planning, including preparation of menus a week in advance, ensuring food availability, and accommodating therapeutic diets as prescribed by physicians and consulted with registered dietitians.

In addition to menu planning and meal preparation, the role includes maintaining a comprehensive preference list for each resident to tailor food options according to individual tastes and needs. Timeliness and proper food handling are imperative, with requirements to serve hot foods above 140 degrees Fahrenheit and cold foods below 45 degrees Fahrenheit to uphold food safety standards. This includes preparing special nutritional bag lunches for residents attending day programs away from the home, mindful of food safety concerns such as the lack of refrigeration.

The staff member is also responsible for inventory management and purchasing, operating within budget constraints, and ensuring accuracy with food deliveries by verifying invoices and receipts. Cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen facilities must be upheld in accordance with North Carolina Environmental Health Standards to provide a safe food service environment.

The role involves cooperation with other staff members and rapport building with residents and their families, ensuring respect, dignity, and safety are maintained at all times. Familiarity with confidentiality laws regarding resident information, safety protocols including accident, fire safety, and OSHA procedures, and adherence to the Adult Care Home Resident’s Bill of Rights are essential aspects of this position. The dietary staff member also participates in continuing education and adheres to all facility policies and procedures to improve service quality continually.

Overall, this position is suited for individuals with food service experience who are physically capable of performing kitchen duties, highly organized, attentive to detail, and passionate about contributing to the health and well-being of vulnerable populations in a residential care setting. This role is critical in supporting the mission of the Adult Care Home to provide comprehensive, respectful, and high-quality care to its residents.
