Job Description
City of Hope is a renowned and deeply respected organization dedicated to transforming hope into reality for individuals affected by cancer and diabetes. Established in 1913, this institution has evolved into one of the largest and most advanced centers for cancer research and treatment in the United States. City of Hope is also recognized as a leading research institution for diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. With its roots deeply planted in innovative medical research, the organization has been pivotal in pioneering breakthrough cancer drugs, human synthetic insulin, and monoclonal antibodies, all of which have significantly advanced treatment options and outcomes for patients worldwide.
At the core of City of Hope's operations is its independent, National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, which holds a prestigious ranking in the top five nationwide for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report. The center serves as a hub for patient care, groundbreaking scientific research, academic training, and an expansive philanthropy program that fuels its mission. City of Hope's influential reach extends beyond its Los Angeles campus, with a growing national system that includes clinical care locations throughout Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and cancer treatment and outpatient facilities in multiple metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Chicago, and Phoenix.
The organization is committed to providing superior care to its patients and fostering innovation in medical research and treatment. By integrating patient services with cutting-edge research and education, City of Hope exemplifies a holistic approach to healthcare that prioritizes patient outcomes and advancement in medical science.
The role of Cook at City of Hope is a vital position within their food and nutrition services team, directly contributing to the health and satisfaction of patients, staff, and visitors. The cook is entrusted with preparing high-quality, nutritious, visually appealing, and flavorful food products tailored to meet specialized dietary guidelines designed to support patient care and recovery. This role requires strict adherence to the organization's established food and dietetic nutritional standards, ensuring that all meals align with the health needs of patients and the expectations of the institution.
In addition to food preparation, the cook must maintain rigorous compliance with sanitation, health, and personal hygiene protocols to uphold the highest standards of food safety. The position demands adaptability regarding work schedules, including flexibility to cover shifts between 6:00 AM and 6:30 PM from Monday through Friday, with additional requirements for weekends and holidays as needed.
Candidates who thrive in this role will bring at least one year of relevant experience in food and beverage services, hospitality, or a high-volume hospital cafeteria setting, along with a commitment to excellence in food safety and quality. The cook plays a significant role in supporting the overall well-being of City of Hope's community by delivering meals that promote healing, comfort, and satisfaction. This opportunity is suited for individuals who are passionate about nutrition, food service, and patient care within a highly respected healthcare environment.
