The Cook position located at Marquette University - Catering is a full-time role offering a pay rate of $20 per hour. The workdays and shifts vary, with open availability preferred, allowing flexibility to support university events, daily meals, and catering demands efficiently. As a Cook for Sodexo, you will play an essential role in preparing, cooking, and presenting a wide range of hot and cold food items with a strong focus on quality, consistency, and presentation. This role demands working in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment to deliver exceptional dining experiences for event attendees and daily consumers.

Your responsibilities will include following recipes precisely, seasoning, cooking, tasting, and carving a variety of dishes. Preparation must adhere to federal, state, and Sodexo’s internal food safety and quality standards. You will contribute to kitchen teamwork, manage workstation cleanliness and organization, and handle food production planning aspects such as inventory tracking and estimating food requirements. In addition to maintaining food safety and sanitation norms, the role requires physical stamina for extended periods of standing and mobility, as well as the ability to lift and move food products and equipment.

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, throughout the entire duration of a shift, which may exceed 8 hours
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions
  • Attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Other duties may be assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements
