The Cook position at Valley West plays a crucial role in the healthcare environment by preparing and serving nutritious and appealing meals tailored to the specific dietary requirements of patients. This role involves ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards to provide quality care in food preparation and delivery. The Cook will actively participate in an interdisciplinary team, demonstrating professionalism, adherence to company policies, and a positive attitude toward patients and coworkers. Key responsibilities include meal preparation using production tools and recipes, serving meals and snacks timely, ensuring supply readiness for upcoming meals, and maintaining excellent customer service standards. Physical activity will be part of the daily routine, involving various movements and tasks essential to supporting patient care. Through this role, the Cook contributes directly to improving the nutritional health and overall satisfaction of residents receiving skilled and long-term care at Valley West.

Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- One year experience in food preparation preferred
- Experience in preparing and cooking food in large quantities
- Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Knowledgeable of practices and procedures and laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in the post acute care facility
- Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department
- Perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to patient rights, safety, and sanitation
- Maintain professional working relationships with associates and vendors
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
- Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
- Display integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care's Code of Conduct and complete mandatory compliance training
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- One year experience in food preparation preferred
- Experience in preparing and cooking food in large quantities
- Knowledge of ordered diets and food consistencies
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary
- Understanding of practices and procedures in post-acute care facilities
- Ability to perform proficiently in patient rights, safety, and sanitation
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Professionalism and adherence to company code of conduct
Job Duties
- Prepare and serve meals that are appetizing in both taste and appearance and appropriate for each patient
- Knowledgeable of ordered diets as well as food consistency
- Ensure food and supplies for the next meal are readily available
- Serve meals and snacks in a timely manner
- Utilize production tools and recipes provided to prepare meals and snacks
- Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
- Assist in the evacuation of patients
