Job Description

The role of Cook within our Dining Services team is pivotal. This position involves preparing nutritious, appetizing, and attractive meals tailored specifically to meet the dietary needs and preferences of our residents. You will work closely with fellow team members to ensure that the kitchen operates smoothly, efficiently, and most importantly, safely. Adherence to food safety and sanitation protocols is critical in this role to protect the health and well-being of the residents we serve.

Your daily responsibilities will include reviewing menu plans and food-production instructions to accurately prepare meals according to Holiday menus and recipes. Attention to detail in portion control is essential to maintain consistency and control food costs. Additionally, you will oversee the preparation and set-up of serving carts, ensuring that meals are attractively garnished and delivered on schedule to residents. This role requires a proactive approach to food safety; you will need to follow proper procedures for covering, labeling, dating, and storing food and maintain accurate logs such as refrigerator, freezer, and production sheets.

Sanitation standards set by the organization demand thorough cleaning of preparation and serving areas, pots and pans, kitchen surfaces, walls, and floors. You will work in compliance with cleaning schedules and charts designed to uphold a high level of kitchen hygiene. Resident satisfaction is a core focus, and you will be expected to promptly address any food-related concerns or complaints to ensure a positive dining experience.

This position is ideal for individuals with a minimum of 2 years’ culinary experience in the food service industry or a full-service restaurant environment, who have strong communication skills and a commitment to food safety standards. Basic computer skills are a plus, as they may be required for maintaining logs and other documentation. Job Duties

  • Review menus and food-production instructions and prepare meals following Holiday menus and recipes while ensuring portion-control standards
  • Oversee preparation and set-up of serving carts to serve nutritious food, attractively garnished in a punctual manner
  • Follow food safe handling procedures in preparation as well as proper procedures for covering, labeling, dating, and storing food
  • Ensure logs are accurately completed in a timely manner, i.e., refrigerator, freezer and production sheets
  • Follow Holiday sanitation standards by effectively cleaning while working, including preparation and serving areas, pots and pans, kitchen surfaces, walls, and floors, using appropriate cleaning schedules and charts
  • Focus on resident satisfaction and resolve any food-complaint issues as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
