Job Description

Fora Health is a dedicated healthcare provider specializing in delivering comprehensive treatment and support services for individuals with substance use disorders and related health needs. The organization is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of its clients through compassionate care and evidence-based practices. Operating primarily as a health and social services organization, Fora Health focuses on creating a supportive environment where patients receive not only medical support but also nutritional and therapeutic care that contributes to their overall recovery and quality of life. The organization's mission centers on fostering healing and wellness through a multidisciplinary approach that includes medical treatment, counseling, and nutritional support, ensuring the holistic needs of patients are met effectively.

The position of Cook at Fora Health is instrumental in supporting the organization’s mission by ensuring that both patients and staff receive nutritious and well-balanced meals. The Cook plays a critical role in the Food Services Department, working collaboratively with the Lead Cook, Food Services Assistant Manager, and Food Services Manager to maintain a stable and efficient food service operation. This role involves preparing and serving a wide variety of meals that meet the dietary needs of both patients and staff, emphasizing nutrition, taste, and compliance with budgetary constraints. The Cook's responsibilities extend beyond meal preparation to include participation in daily operations discussions, weekly supervisory meetings, monthly staff training, and efforts to innovate with new recipes and food preparation methods.

In this role, the Cook must ensure portion control to manage food expenditures while maintaining high quality and variety in meals served. The Cook is also responsible for preparing picnic foods and sack lunches for off-site events, upholding cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen, and supervising patients when they are engaged in kitchen-related house jobs. This supervision is critical to ensuring timely completion of tasks and maintaining treatment schedules. Additionally, the Cook is expected to foster positive working relationships with patients and co-workers alike, adhering to established boundaries while providing necessary support to maintain smooth food service operations. This role requires reliability, attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to the health and wellbeing of others.

Overall, the Cook position at Fora Health is a vital component of the patient care and support system, bridging the gap between clinical treatment and nutritional wellbeing. The role demands experience in large batch institutional cooking, a current food handler’s card, and a valid driver’s license. Candidates must also comply with specific organizational policies related to sobriety certification for employees with a history of substance use disorder, drug testing, and health safety evaluations. Working conditions involve physical activity such as walking, bending, standing, manual food preparation tasks, lifting moderately heavy items, and enduring high heat environments. The position maintains a balance between independent task management and teamwork, emphasizing communication and collaboration to enhance the overall quality of food services at Fora Health.
