Job Description
Panda Restaurant Group, Inc. is a premier Asian dining restaurant established in 1983, and it is now the largest family-owned American Chinese restaurant concept in America. With its roots planted in Glendale, California, Panda has grown markedly and boasts nearly 2,800 locations worldwide. The company is deeply committed to delivering exceptional dining experiences steeped in Asian cuisine, combining taste, culture, and hospitality. Panda is known not only for its excellent food but also for fostering a supportive, family-oriented workplace culture, making it a desirable employer in the restaurant industry.
The company prides itself on being a dynamic and inclusive organization with family values at its core. It is deeply invested in impacting the lives of its team members and the communities where its restaurants operate. Panda Restaurant Group champions diversity, equity, and inclusion and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. This reflects in its commitment never to discriminate based on legally protected characteristics like gender, race, age, disability, or veteran status. Moreover, Panda ensures that applicants and employees have access to reasonable workplace accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The role of a Cook at Panda Restaurant Group is central to maintaining the high standards and vibrant atmosphere that guests enjoy. As a Cook, you will live the brand’s mission by showcasing passion in food preparation, offering heartfelt service, and contributing to a welcoming ambiance. This position is perfect for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and are eager to take on leadership roles within the kitchen. Serving as a vital member of the kitchen team, you will work diligently to ensure that every dish prepared meets Panda’s rigorous recipes and quality standards.
Your responsibilities will extend beyond cooking; you will also be expected to guide and mentor fellow kitchen team members, assisting in their training and development. This role involves performing all back-of-house tasks, which are essential for the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen. You will help foster an environment that is not only engaging for guests but also supportive and collaborative for your colleagues.
The job requires stamina and resilience, as you will be working in an environment where conditions can be physically demanding. It involves standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, working around hot steam and high noise levels, and handling sharp kitchen equipment. Eligible candidates must have some educational background—at least some high school education—and preferably some operational experience in food service. Compliance with local food safety requirements, such as obtaining a Food Handler certification at the applicant’s own expense, is mandatory.
Panda Restaurant Group also places high value on the growth and development of its employees. New hires receive hands-on paid training, focusing on preparing them for success in their roles. There are ongoing career and leadership development opportunities available, providing a pathway for growth into management positions. The company nurtures its workforce by offering flexible schedules, competitive pay, and a comprehensive benefits package. This package includes options such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, 401K with company match, paid time off including vacation and sick leave, associate discounts, a referral bonus program, and opportunities to give back to the community.
Working for Panda means more than just a job; it means becoming a part of a community focused on personal and professional advancement, all within a vibrant and fast-moving restaurant environment. This role calls for someone passionate about food, proactive in leadership, and eager to contribute positively to both the guest experience and the team’s success.
