The position available is for a Cook within the Child and Youth Programs (CYP) at MCCS. This role involves performing a wide range of simple cooking tasks in either a Child Development Center (CDC) or a School Age Care (SAC) program. The CYP Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of foods that often require minimal processing, such as pancakes, eggs, sausages, sandwiches, vegetables, and convenience foods. The role demands attention to detail and adherence to food safety and sanitation standards to ensure that meals meet quality and health guidelines.

Beyond preparing meals, the CYP Cook assists with food preparation activities like peeling, cutting, washing, and assembling ingredients. They follow standardized recipes and portion controls to maintain consistency and nutrition. Additionally, the cook manages kitchen sanitation by cleaning utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas, and performs food storage duties including inventory management and proper labeling. This helps maintain a clean and safe environment critical for young children and ensures food safety compliance.

The position requires physical stamina as it involves frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working in environments that may be warm, noisy, or subject to temperature extremes. Maintaining certifications such as TIER-1 Childcare background checks, food handler certification, CPR, and First Aid is mandatory. Employees must comply with all Department of Defense training requirements and MCCS policies related to safety, security, sanitation, and customer service.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain TIER-1 Childcare (CNACI) background checks
  • Must pass pre-employment and annual physicals and provide immunization records
  • Must complete Department of Defense training including orientation and annual food handler certification
  • Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
  • May be required to obtain government driver's license and purchase card
  • Must be physically capable of standing, walking, lifting up to 45 lbs independently

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Assist in food preparation including peeling, cutting, washing, and assembling ingredients
  • Weigh, measure, and dispense food according to portion controls and recipes
  • Stock and transport food service carts to classrooms and activity areas
  • Clean pots, pans, dishes, and kitchen areas adhering to sanitation standards
  • Store food items with proper labeling and maintain accurate inventories
  • Comply with security, fire, and sanitation regulations
  • Report workplace hazards and safety issues
