The Cypress is much more than just a workplace; it’s a resort-style community that fosters a strong sense of belonging and values the meaningful contributions of its team members. As a leading senior living community in Charlotte, The Cypress commits to providing exceptional services and a warm atmosphere, making it a highly sought-after employer in the area for those passionate about hospitality and senior care.
This full-time Cook position at The Cypress of Charlotte offers a tremendous opportunity to be part of a dynamic Culinary Services Department. The role is structured around a varied schedule that requires flexibility, with shifts available Monday through Saturday from either 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weekend availability is a must for this role. The pay rate ranges from $18 to $20 per hour, and a $1,500 sign-on bonus is offered to attract skilled culinary professionals.
The Cook will be responsible for hands-on production cooking across multiple kitchen stations, ensuring food quality and presentation meet the high standards of The Cypress. This includes preparing soups, stocks, sauces, and a variety of cooking methods such as boiling, braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, grilling, steaming, and baking according to standardized recipes. The position demands a detail-oriented individual who can manage food production planning to coordinate with meal serving hours, ensuring every dish served is excellent in taste, appearance, and temperature.
Beyond cooking, the role requires the determination of daily food and supply needs, ensuring timely stocking and proper use of kitchen equipment, and maintaining kitchen operations with efficiency. The Cook will work closely with the culinary team to deliver meals that meet special diet orders and nutritional requirements, enhancing the dining experience for seniors at the community.
This position not only emphasizes culinary skills but also values strong communication abilities, the capacity to follow verbal and written instructions in English, and the aptitude for simple arithmetic related to measurements and conversions. Preferred qualifications include SERVSafe Certification and experience in hospital or senior living settings, though solid experience from restaurants, hotels, or similar institutions is also welcomed.
Joining The Cypress means becoming part of an organization that values employee wellbeing and offers comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options; short- and long-term disability; a 401(k) plan with company matching; generous paid time off and holidays; employee assistance programs; and additional perks including employee discounts, appreciation bonuses, free meals, and parking. The community's location is accessible via public transportation with discounted bus tickets available for employees. All these benefits underscore The Cypress’s commitment to creating an exceptional, supportive, and fun workplace for its employees.
