Job Description

AVANCE San Antonio is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to empowering and supporting families and children in the San Antonio community through education, nutrition, and holistic development programs. The organization emphasizes the importance of nurturing children's growth by providing resources that promote health, education, and emotional well-being. With a strong commitment to community involvement and educational excellence, AVANCE San Antonio works closely with families, educators, and local agencies to deliver impactful programs tailored to the needs of children and their families. The organization is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity, equal opportunity, and the unique potential of every child and family it serves.

The position available is a Food Service Provider role responsible for preparing and delivering nutritious meals and snacks to enrolled children and participants in special events. This role plays a critical part in promoting healthy eating habits and positive attitudes toward food among children, supporting their physical development such as muscle control and eye-hand coordination. Working under the guidance of the Nutrition Manager, the Food Service Provider is expected to contribute to meal planning, shopping, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, including USDA regulations and local health department requirements. This position supports family-style meal service practices, helping children develop appropriate mealtime behaviors by observing adults and staff models. The role also requires close collaboration with teaching staff to introduce new foods through educational activities and home visits, encouraging children to explore and enjoy healthy options.

In addition to meal preparation and service, the Food Service Provider is responsible for maintaining accurate records of meals served, supplies inventory, and adhering to dietary restrictions and medically necessary meal substitutions as prescribed by registered dietitians. The role demands up-to-date training on allergy management and emergency procedures, ensuring the safe feeding of children with special dietary needs. AVANCE San Antonio values someone with good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining kitchen safety and hygiene standards. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, food handler certification upon hire, and food manager certification within 30 days. CPR and first aid training, good communication skills, and dependable transportation are essential. This is an excellent opportunity for someone dedicated to child nutrition, safety, and education to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused organization.
