Job Description
This position is for a Cook in a dynamic restaurant setting, reporting directly to the Manager on Duty (MOD). The role involves preparing, cooking, and packaging food products according to the restaurant's operational and quality standards, ensuring that each dish meets the company's expectations for taste, presentation, and safety. As an integral part of the kitchen team, the Cook will operate various stations including the dresser, front swamp, back swamp, grill, and food preparation areas, playing a crucial role in maintaining a smooth and efficient food service workflow. The establishment operates in a fast-paced environment that requires teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to food safety and cleanliness.
The Cook position requires flexibility in scheduling due to irregular hours that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. This part-time opportunity provides valuable experience for individuals interested in the food service industry or seeking to enhance their culinary skills. Responsibilities extend beyond cooking to include routine cleaning and sanitation, which are essential to uphold health standards and ensure a safe working environment for all staff. These duties involve trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and preparation tools, wiping down counters, sanitizing food preparation areas, cleaning equipment, and managing grease disposal. The job also expects regular and dependable attendance to maintain consistent kitchen operations.
Additional tasks include reporting any customer or employee complaints to the Manager on Duty to resolve issues promptly and maintain high service quality. The Cook must also handle inventory tasks like moving and stocking food products, some weighing up to 50 pounds, requiring physical stamina and strength. The role may also involve other job-related duties as assigned by management, emphasizing the need for adaptability and a proactive attitude.
Ideal candidates will possess basic math and reading skills, enabling them to follow recipes, measure ingredients accurately, and ensure proper food preparation procedures. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary for understanding instructions and interacting with team members efficiently. Multi-tasking abilities are crucial to cope with the demands of the kitchen, where timely preparation of multiple items is often required. This position offers a hands-on learning environment that promotes growth in culinary techniques, kitchen management, and adherence to restaurant protocols.
Working conditions for the Cook are physically demanding, requiring continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, and lifting. The environment includes frequent exposure to heat and hot liquid shortening during cooking processes, as well as exposure to freezer temperatures when stocking food items. Weather conditions might occasionally impact the workplace, especially if certain tasks are performed in areas exposed to outdoor elements. The role is suited for individuals who thrive in active, fast-paced environments and who are committed to maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
