This role is pivotal in ensuring that residents receive high-quality, nutritious meals that meet established dietary standards and preferences. The Cook leverages extensive knowledge and experience in food production to prepare and serve meals that are not only safe and timely but also delicious and consistent with standardized recipes. Operating under strict food safety and sanitation requirements, the Cook maintains an orderly kitchen while also stepping up to manage food production in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.

The role involves a wide variety of responsibilities that contribute to the smooth operation of the dining services and overall resident satisfaction. The Cook’s duties include using production sheets accurately for recording food quantities and temperatures, preparing meals with dietary modifications as required, and ensuring inventory is properly stocked and rotated according to safety standards. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen, storage, and work areas is essential along with completing daily and weekly cleaning tasks and maintaining equipment logs to report any issues promptly.

This position also entails complying with occupational health and safety regulations and adopting best practices for risk management and safety, including the use of PPE and adherence to fire safety and equipment lockout/tagout procedures. Collaboration and engagement are key, with the Cook expected to participate actively in team goals, uphold the team member credo, and contribute to both resident and team member engagement initiatives. Attendance at regular meetings such as Town Halls and Department Team meetings is also part of the role, reinforcing communication and cohesion within the dining services team.

Ideal candidates will bring at least one year of relevant experience in food preparation within environments such as restaurants, hotels, or similar settings, coupled with a high school diploma or GED. Certification requirements include CPR, First Aid, ServSafe Manager Certificate, and a Local Health Department Food Handler Card, with additional culinary training or apprenticeship considered beneficial. Job Duties

  • Ensure high standards for food taste and quality are upheld at all times
  • Prepare and serve meals in a timely manner and in accordance with established standardized recipes and menus
  • Utilize production sheets to accurately record food production quantities and cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures
  • Prepare required dietary modifications as ordered
  • Use Sunrise systems per guidelines for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy
  • Stock, rotate, date, and store product according to food safety standards and regulations
  • Maintain clean and organized kitchen, storage, and work areas
