The Cook role at DoubleTree Baton Rouge is integral to delivering memorable dining experiences that delight guests and elevate the hotel's culinary reputation. This position is well-suited for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented environments and possess a passion for food preparation and creativity. The Cook will be responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking a variety of dishes, including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts, adhering strictly to state health and sanitation regulations as well as hotel standards. This role demands attention to detail, speed, accuracy, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively while working both independently and collaboratively within the kitchen team. The position offers an opportunity to work with fresh ingredients and craft delicious meals either on a regular basis or for special guests and functions, ensuring every dish meets quality expectations.
Successful candidates will engage in comprehensive opening and closing duties, including setting up workstations, inspecting kitchen tools and equipment, managing supply inventory, and maintaining spotless food prep and storage areas. The role involves close communication with food and beverage service staff to keep them informed of menu changes and specials throughout service periods. The Cook will also handle proper storage procedures, food labeling, and sanitation practices to maintain optimal food safety standards. This position not only requires culinary skills but also the ability to work cohesively with coworkers as part of a team while adhering to operational guidelines and efficiently managing kitchen responsibilities.

- Experience with food preparation and handling
- Certification of culinary training or apprenticeship is preferred

Job Duties
- Maintain and strictly abide by state sanitation/health regulations and hotel requirements
- Check the quality of raw or cooked food products to ensure that standards are met
- Prepare and cook foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions
- Complete opening duties: a) Set up the workstation with tools, equipment, and supplies
- b) Inspect the cleanliness and working condition of all tools, equipment, and supplies
- c) Check production schedule and pars
- d) Establish priority items for the day
- e) Transport supplies from the Storeroom and stock in designated areas
- Start prep work on items needed for the menu of the day
- Inform F&B service staff of 86'd items and the number of available menu specials throughout the meal period
- Maintain proper storage procedures as specified by Health Department and Hotel requirements
- Closing duties: a) Return all food items to the proper storage areas
- b) Wrap, cover, label, and date all items being put away
- c) Straighten up and organize all storage areas
- d) Clean up and wipe down food prep areas, reach-ins/walk-ins, shelves
- e) Return all unused and clean utensils/equipment to the specified locations
- f) Turn off all equipment not needed for the next shift
- Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy
