The Cook position at Denny's plays a crucial role in maintaining the brand's high standards by preparing and presenting food orders in compliance with detailed recipe specifications and food safety regulations. Reporting directly to the General Manager and Restaurant Manager, Cooks ensure every meal served meets the exceptional quality expectations set by the company. They are responsible not only for executing preparation and cooking tasks but also for maintaining inventory, adhering to safety guidelines, organizing the kitchen space, and assisting team members as needed. This role requires a commitment to following established procedures, including proper food handling and storage, monitoring food temperatures, and managing waste to help control costs. Cooks at Denny's are expected to be reliable, adaptable team players with strong product and menu knowledge, excellent guest service skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Essential functions of the role include lifting and carrying supplies up to 50 pounds, maneuvering within confined kitchen spaces, and standing for extended periods during shifts that typically last between 4 to 8 hours. Candidates must be able to read tickets, recipes, and product specs, stay compliant with all health regulations, and have basic math skills to measure ingredients accurately. Flexibility to work various shifts—nights, weekends, and holidays—is required, along with the ability to work with potentially hazardous chemicals and adapt to temperature variations within kitchen and freezer areas. The role also involves physical tasks such as bending, stooping, reaching, wiping, and grasping.

Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years old or older
- able to lift and carry supplies up to 50 lbs
- able to stand and walk for 4 to 8 hour shifts
- able to work flexible schedule including nights weekends and holidays
- able to communicate in English
- meet state local food handling regulations
- ability to work with potentially hazardous chemicals
- meet Denny's uniform and grooming standards
- able to pass required tests and training
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior cooking or kitchen experience preferred
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
