The role of Cook in this organization involves the preparation and oversight of meal services, ensuring that all food served meets nutritional standards, tastes delicious, and is appealing in presentation. The person in this role will be responsible for preparing scheduled meals from pre-planned menus by following standardized recipes, diet manual guidelines, and portion controls strictly. They will skillfully handle modified and therapeutic diets, ensuring all dietary needs of residents or customers are met precisely. Essential responsibilities also include monitoring and recording food temperatures to guarantee food safety and quality, conducting cleaning duties during and after meals to maintain sanitation, and operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. The Cook may serve as a delegate supervisor in the absence of the Dining Service Director, overseeing dining services staff and reporting supply or maintenance needs. This position requires knowledge of proper cleaning schedules, sanitation checklists, and emergency protocols such as fire and disaster plans. The Cook is expected to maintain confidentiality regarding resident, community, employee, and company information, underscoring the importance of discretion in this vital role. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years experience as a cook preparing meals for a large group on a regular basis
- Proven experience operating commercial kitchen equipment including steamers ovens ranges grills slicers mixers grinders dishwashers and cooking utensils
- Food handler's permit valid in the state of employment
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and diet manual guidelines precisely
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and ability to monitor food temperatures accurately
- Capacity to perform cleaning duties and maintain sanitation standards
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under emergency conditions
- Must satisfy all state health licensure certification and background requirements

- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of experience as a cook preparing meals for a large group on a regular basis or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be experienced in operation of common commercial kitchen equipment such as commercial steamer convection oven standard gas or electric range and grill meat slicer mixer grinder commercial dishwasher cooking utensils etc.
- Must have food handler's permit and complete any additional training or certification requirements mandated by the state of employment
Job Duties
- Prepare scheduled meals from pre-planned menus according to prescribed standards following standardized recipes and diet manual guidelines using standardized portions and making substitutions only with approval
- Accurately prepare and serve food for modified and therapeutic diets
- Check and record food temperatures at each meal
- Perform clean-up duties as needed during and after each meal service
- Use equipment and materials safely and follow correct operating and cleaning procedures
- Follow cleaning schedules and sanitation checklists
- Check and record freezer refrigerator dish machine and dry storage temperatures
- Perform routine recordkeeping duties to assist with compilation of department reports
- Report all supply and maintenance needs to Dining Service Director
- Oversee and direct the duties of other Dining Services staff in the absence of Dining Service Director
- Attend mandatory meetings as scheduled by Executive Director
- Maintain confidentiality of resident community employee and company information
- Maintain working knowledge of fire and disaster plans and responsibilities under emergency conditions
- Perform other duties as assigned
