Windmoor Healthcare of Clearwater is a freestanding psychiatric hospital affiliated with UHS, specializing in acute psychiatric and substance abuse treatment for adults aged 18 and older. This 144-bed facility is located in picturesque Clearwater, Florida, offering 24-hour accessible admissions services. Windmoor Healthcare provides comprehensive treatment programs that include substance abuse rehabilitation, dual diagnosis, rapid stabilization, mental health assessments, and partial hospitalization. Within this esteemed healthcare environment, the Cook position at Windmoor Healthcare offers a critical role in supporting patient care through the preparation of nutritious meals. This is a PRN (as needed) opportunity, providing flexibility through various 8-hour shifts. The cook is responsible for safely preparing and cooking food for patients and staff in accordance with the menus and recipes developed by the hospital's Dietician. This role also includes assisting with recipe development to ensure the highest quality of food service. Attention to detail is paramount, as the cook must maintain excellent food quality, monitor the appropriate use of leftovers, coordinate menu changes, and provide support during special employee or catering functions.

The cook is expected to follow standardized procedures in the kitchen, prioritizing sanitation and safety. This includes the proper use of kitchen tools, appliances, and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with health standards. The role demands a candidate who demonstrates strong communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in healthcare or behavioral health settings is highly valued, along with knowledge of modified diets and food service sanitation. Job Qualifications

  • high school graduate or equivalent
  • two years cooking experience required with prior experience as a cook in a fast-paced setting
  • experience in healthcare facility and/or behavioral healthcare setting strongly preferred
  • industrial food preparation experience preferred
  • basic knowledge of modified diets, serving principles and training in food services sanitation
  • safe serve certification preferred
  • prior kitchen supervisory experience preferred
  • excellent food preparation and presentation skills
  • able to effectively communicate, prioritize tasks and demonstrate flexibility with strong focus on safety and quality

Job Duties

  • properly prepare and cook food for patients and staff according to menu and recipes provided by the dietician
  • assist in recipe development
  • maintain high food and service quality
  • work with facility director/manager regarding appropriate usage of leftovers, menu changes and substitutions
  • assist director in preparation of special employee and/or catering functions
