Job Description
Youth Consultation Service (YCS) is a reputable behavioral health and social services agency that has been dedicated to supporting at-risk children and families in New Jersey since 1918. With over a century of experience, YCS has established itself as a leader in providing therapeutic care through various specialized programs, including therapeutic residences, special education schools, and in-home and community initiatives. The organization’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations is reflected in its wide array of comprehensive services tailored to meet the diverse needs of children facing behavioral and emotional challenges.
YCS is currently seeking a dedicated cook to join the team at the Holley Child Care and Development Center, a 24-hour long-term intensive treatment residential facility serving high-risk and behaviorally challenged children aged 8 to 15. This role is critical in ensuring that students receive nutritious, well-prepared meals in accordance with dietitian-approved menus to support their health and well-being. The cook will be responsible for preparing meals using correct food preparation methods, adhering to portion sizes, and ensuring timely presentation of all menu items.
The successful candidate will work closely with dietary staff and comply with all safety, sanitation, and health regulations including OSHA guidelines to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. At Holley Child Care and Development Center, meal preparation not only satisfies nutritional needs but also contributes to a structured and supportive environment for children receiving intensive treatment. The cook’s role is thus essential in delivering meals that meet approved dietary schedules and standards, ensuring adequate quantities and proper presentation that align with the facility’s policies and procedures.
This position requires at least one year of cooking experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. YCS offers a competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; life insurance; disability benefits; wellness programs; a 403(b) savings and investment plan; and potential public service loan forgiveness. As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, YCS fosters an inclusive work environment where all qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
Joining YCS as a cook offers the opportunity to be part of an organization committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families in need. The role is both rewarding and pivotal in supporting the facility’s mission to provide holistic care through therapeutic and educational services. Working in a dynamic environment that values dedication, safety, and nutritional excellence, the cook will contribute directly to the quality of life and treatment outcomes of the youth under YCS care.
