Job Description

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is a dynamic and service-oriented organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for Marines, their families, and the entire Marine Corps Community. MCCS provides a comprehensive range of programs and services designed to meet the needs of this unique community, ensuring they thrive in their personal and professional lives. The organization features a diverse team made up of military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and volunteers who work collaboratively to keep operations running smoothly and effectively. MCCS operates with a strong commitment to the Marine Corps, emphasizing teamwork, service excellence, and community support. The position available is a Regular Full-Time role with eligibility for an extensive benefits package including a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, NAF Pension Plan, medical and dental insurance, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a tuition assistance program among other benefits. This full-time Cook position is based at MCAS Miramar and is part of the Child and Youth Programs (CYP) designed to ensure the nutritional and health needs of children in care are met efficiently and safely. As a CYP Cook, you will perform a variety of cooking tasks in either a Child Development Center (CDC) or a School Age Care (SAC) Program environment. The duties involve preparing and cooking basic food items such as pancakes, sausages, eggs, hamburgers, vegetables, and convenience items like chicken nuggets and fish fillets. Preparation includes peeling, cutting, and washing ingredients and assembling food items according to standardized recipes. You will also be involved in baking, broiling meats, making soups and sauces, and managing portion controls to serve nutritious meals adjusted for children and youth. A key component of this role is maintaining kitchen cleanliness and sanitation by washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, cleaning kitchen areas, and following proper food storage and inventory procedures. Safety regulations and compliance with health standards such as the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program are vital aspects of the job. The cook must ensure all food items are stored properly, labeled, and dated to prevent spoilage, and help maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment. The position requires adherence to strict health protocols, especially when working with children having special dietary needs, and involves moderate physical effort like lifting, carrying, and moving heavy items. The working conditions can be warm, noisy, and expose employees to kitchen hazards including steam and hot surfaces. This position mandates obtaining and maintaining Tier-1 Child Care background checks, passing pre-employment and annual physicals, completing required Department of Defense training, and holding current food handler, CPR, and first aid certifications. Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver world-class customer service with a focus on courtesy are essential. The Cook role at MCCS is an opportunity to be part of a respected military community, making a valuable contribution through food service in a supportive and structured environment. This role promises job stability, comprehensive employee benefits, and the chance to work in an environment dedicated to service and excellence.
