Job Description

YWCA Minneapolis is a renowned organization dedicated to fostering equitable futures through inclusive education and community initiatives. As a prominent nonprofit, the YWCA focuses on advancing racial and gender equity, creating impactful change in the lives of individuals and families in the Minneapolis area. Their Early Childhood Education program embodies these values by providing high-quality care and education that supports the healthy development of young children. Through comprehensive programs and services, YWCA Minneapolis offers a nurturing and safe environment for children to grow and thrive, preparing them for lifelong success. Joining the YWCA Minneapolis means becoming part of a movement committed to social justice, equality, and community empowerment. The organization prides itself on fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where every voice is valued and innovation is driven by collaboration and mutual respect.

The role of Cook within the Early Childhood Education program is pivotal to the daily operations and success of YWCA Minneapolis’s child care services. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and balanced meals to children, adhering strictly to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines. This position requires a detail-oriented and dependable food service professional who understands the critical role that healthy eating plays in child development. Your expertise will ensure that every meal, whether it is breakfast, lunch, or snack, not only meets but exceeds health and nutrition standards, contributing to the overall well-being and cognitive growth of the children served.

The Cook will manage kitchen operations efficiently, including ordering supplies and food items in a cost-effective manner, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and keeping accurate records aligned with health and safety regulations. A key aspect of this role is the ability to adjust menus and meal preparations to accommodate special dietary needs and allergies, ensuring that all children receive meals that are safe and suited to their individual requirements. This position is full-time with a competitive pay range of $18 to $20 per hour. Beyond meal preparation, the Cook may also support classroom staff occasionally, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

This role demands someone who can work independently yet remain adaptable within a team setting, consistently upholding the highest standards of food safety, nutrition, and kitchen hygiene. You will be an integral part of a child-focused environment, where your commitment to accountability and attention to detail will directly impact the health and happiness of young learners. YWCA Minneapolis values candidates who are proactive, organized, and passionate about making a difference through their culinary skills in early childhood settings. Joining this team offers the rewarding opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven organization dedicated to creating equitable opportunities for children and families.
