Job Description

Summit is a specialized food service provider dedicated to serving correctional institutions across the United States. Their primary mission is to ensure that incarcerated individuals receive access to delicious, nutritious, and healthy meals every day. Operating within a correctional facility context, Summit’s teams work with a strong sense of purpose, recognizing the importance of mealtime as not only a time for nourishment but also vital social interaction. Summit operates under the brand umbrella of Elior North America, a renowned catering and food service management company committed to diversity, employee development, and career growth. Elior North America fosters an inclusive work environment encouraging applications from people of all backgrounds and abilities, offering equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or veteran status.

The current role is a full-time, onsite Cook position based in Bel Air, Maryland, within the corrections segment of Summit. This role requires working alongside an energetic and highly motivated kitchen team to prepare quality meals efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The cook will be responsible for managing food quality and portion control, preparing ingredients and dishes from scratch, creatively presenting food to maintain appealing visual standards, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in the kitchen. Additionally, the cook will ensure proper storage of food items and strictly adhere to safe food handling policies, procedures, and established recipes.

Candidates for this position should have at least one year of prior culinary experience, preferably from high-volume and quality establishments, with a strong emphasis on scratch cooking techniques. Working knowledge of culinary methods, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic kitchen environment are essential attributes. Familiarity with various kitchen equipment and tools, the ability to distinguish different food items accurately, and prior customer service experience are also important. While not mandatory, obtaining a food handler's certification is considered a valuable asset to excel in this role.

Compensation for this position is competitive, with an hourly wage of $20.00. Summit also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical coverage for full-time employees, dental and vision insurance, voluntary insurance offerings through UNUM such as accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity coverage, and various employee discount programs. Additional benefits include commuter benefits covering parking and transit costs, an employee assistance program (EAP), a 401(k) savings plan, paid sick time, nine paid holidays annually, tuition reimbursement for full-time employees, and paid time off. This comprehensive support system reflects Summit's commitment to employee well-being, professional growth, and work-life balance.

Joining Summit as a Cook provides more than just a job; it offers a career path with advancement opportunities within Elior North America. Employees can develop valuable skills and gain experiences that can propel them in various culinary and food service management roles throughout the company’s diverse brand segments. The role promises an engaging work environment where passion for preparing high-quality meals directly contributes to the well-being of the correctional facility's population. Summits seek individuals who are driven, passionate about culinary arts, and dedicated to maintaining excellent food quality and safety standards.
