Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of cooking experience in hospital or long term care setting
  • Ability to read and follow recipes
  • Ability to record and manage food temperatures accurately
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe certification
  • Physical ability to stand, walk frequently and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff
  • Willingness to supervise and be supervised
  • Compliance with all cleaning and sanitation schedules
  • Knowledge of special diets and food preparation techniques

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a cook in a hospital or long term care facility for not less than one year
  • Ability to read technical procedures and recipes
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions effectively
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram or schedule instructions
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred
  • Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health

Job Duties

  • Maintain kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean and sanitary manner
  • Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Follow prepared menus and portion control guides
  • Prepare special diets accurately
  • Record food temperatures for meals
  • Prepare pureed foods
  • Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments
  • Maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets
  • Assist with serving meals
  • Clean cooking area and serving carts
  • Report resident care concerns to Administrator or Director of Nurses
  • Participate in orientation and training of dietary staff
  • Ensure food presentation is appealing
  • Supervise in absence of Dietary Supervisor
  • Follow all cleaning schedules
